ANAK
ANAK is a four-man singing group (Anthony, Noah, Andrew, Chris) proudly representing the 707. Fusing their diverse musical backgrounds, they have developed a unique sound that fuses Hip Hop, R&B, Soul and Pop. Known for their meticulous harmonies, hip hop oriented rudiments, original production, and occasionally, their knack for bringing back those “old school jams”, they are quickly making a name for themselves in Northern California and beyond.
Anthony (Ant) was born into a musically inclined family. Both of his parents played in a band together where his father was lead guitarist/vocalist and his mother was the lead vocalist. One of Ant’s main influences was his brother, who also sang with various vocal groups that prized themselves on acapellas. Ant loved hearing the harmonies and melodies of his brother’s group and always filled in when it was needed. Finally, after 3 years of choir, he got his chance to start his own group with Andrew in High School. The group was called “Déjà vu.” After high school, life lead the group to disband and Andrew (Dru) and Ant would part ways, only to be reunited in the future in due time. Anthony met Noah and Chris when he got into his second group, DEFI. It was here that Ant delved into song writing as well as honing his vocal skills. Unfortunately, DEFI was also short-lived and Ant would part ways with Noah and Chris, also to be reunited in due time. After an 8-month hiatus from singing, Dru called Ant and wanted to start up another group. Ant said he had the perfect four-man group in mind, and the rest is history.
Along with being part of ANAK, Ant has become a distinguished songwriter. He has written numerous songs for his own Breakstone Productions team and City Lights. As for individual accomplishments, he has appeared on the legendary syndicated “World Famous Wake up Show” with Sway and King Tech, under the name “Ant Chedda. “
Noah always had music as a huge part of his life. Whether it were Disney sing-alongs with his baby sister in the car, his parents playing good old 80’s slow jams in the house, or his grandma playing piano, he was placed in a trance at the very sound. Although he grew up listening to and emulating the sounds of Michael Jackson, Surface, Boyz II Men, Lionel Richie and Peabo Bryson, it wasn’t until high school that Noah pursued singing as more than just a hobby. A couple friends convinced him to sign up to perform at the Christmas talent show, which he performed Dru Hill’s “Angel,” and the minute he heard the girls scream his name, the rest was history. During his senior year, he met Chris and joined his first singing group “Unison.” Unison went on to sing for local showcases, cotillions, and functions (including Noah’s high school graduation).
Being a part of a musical group was nothing new to Noah, who had been playing violin with local orchestras for more than 10 years. Being keen on harmony has helped him contribute to the group sound. Noah and Chris went through many groups and members together, until finding “that perfect fit” with ANAK. Since becoming a member of ANAK, Noah has learned a great deal in songwriting and arranging from other members as well as the artists they have collaborated with (via Breakstone Productions).
Andrew (Dru) has been singing since the young age of 4 and performing since age 9. Dru is most known for his stage presence and taking the song home with his epic upper range. What people do not realize about Dru by watching him on stage, is that is he is well-versed in music theory, composition, and he is also a distinguished songwriter. Dru started writing his 7th grade year, at the tender age of 13, and was finally able to utilize his talents in high school with his first singing group, Déjà vu, alongside Ant. After the group disbanded, Dru decided to enlist in the United States Air Force and consequently took nearly a 2- to 3-year hiatus from singing. After returning home on reserve duty, he was once again looking to sing in a group, called up Ant, and the idea for ANAK was born.
Chris was also from a musical family; therefore it was certain enough that Chris would pick up singing and playing instruments at an early age. Chris also participated in marching band in middle school, took private piano lessons at age 5, and sang in church as part of his routine growing up. During his freshman year in high school, several of his senior friends invited him to perform vocally for a talent show. From that moment on, Chris created his first singing group with Noah. After several years of being blessed with numerous opportunities to travel and perform, he decided to change focus from being part of a group to writing producing songs with other local producers. Those opportunities lead him to become exposed to the ins and outs of studio production. It all came full-circle when he was able to write, produce and sing his own songs with for and with ANAK.
